When we think of buying furniture, we often think of big, bulky items that come loaded on a lorry. Muscular men carry in the new and carry out the old, all with no sweat on our part; but buying furniture that way costs a little bit more. That’s why so many people are buying furniture online and having it shipped in packing boxes. This type of shipping method is called flat pack shipping.
Flat pack shipping isn’t appropriate for everything, but for cabinets, chests, shelving, and TV stands, it’s a great way to ship inexpensively. Flat pack takes its name from the fact that all the pieces are stacked flat in the cardboard box for shipping. On the receiving end, the customer unpacks the box and assembles the product on his own. All the necessary hardware is included in the pack along with complete instructions.
For items like bed frames, a similar type of shipping is used which employs several boxes. The individual pieces may not all be stacked flat, but they are broken down to their smallest form before packing. An air-based bed, for example, might come in three separate packages; one with the mattress and pump, one with the bed frame, and a third with the pedestal. Like a flat pack cabinet, you simply unpack the boxes and assemble the bed.
